# Fractional software architect, part-time

Ongoing architecture and technical leadership without a full-time role. I work with the team, review designs and difficult changes, make architecture decisions, and join implementation when that is the quickest way to resolve something.

### 2 days a week

Price: From €5,500/month. Everything above, with enough time to work directly on larger changes and implementation.

### Larger commitments

Price: quoted per case. More than two days a week, or a defined period around a major change.

## Not included

- People management, performance reviews or hiring decisions
- On-call or incident response
- Hourly billing: the role is a monthly commitment

## Questions

### How much does a fractional architect cost?

With me, one day a week is from €3,000/month, and two days a week from €5,500/month. More than two days a week, or a defined period around a major change, is priced per case. I don’t bill by the hour.

### What are the risks of a part-time architect?

Availability and continuity. I am there on the agreed days, so a decision that cannot wait for those days needs someone on your side who can make it. Knowledge can also leave with a part-time person, which is why decisions get written down in your repository.

### How many hours a week is a fractional engagement?

I count it in days: one or two days a week, set in advance, and the time can change month by month. Availability outside the agreed days is not part of the role.

### Is a fractional architect right for an early-stage startup?

It can be, when the team ships but nobody’s job is to look across the whole system, or when decisions that are expensive to undo are coming up, such as the data model or the tenant model. If you need one question answered, an architecture review from around €2,500 is the smaller step.
